you can do the same procedure on either sides, right?

Shouldnt you first go trough your protocol ABCDE before considering this, because it is much more difficult to do that in a good way if the person is on the side in stead of on the back.

When the person starts to vomit, bleed from mouth then you put the person on the recovery position and when it stops vomiting then you can return to the normal position and continue your survey.

Or if you have to leave the patient because you want to call for help, then you cal also use the recovery position.

If you are with 2 person then you can always use the chinlift or jaw thrust there is no reason to put the patient on recovery position UNLESS it starts vomiting.. Then you can temporary put the patient in the recovery position to safe the airway and when the danger is gone put again on the back and maintain jawthrust/chin lift.

As a fat person I can assure you that sleeping in this position puts stress on my heart.
Explain, please, why not turn the person to the right instead of to the left?

I also recommend extending bottom arm a bit higher to support head.
